Snack
and Stick'm
Since the advent of the internet as an
extension of business the importance of measurement was
paramount. The term "hits" was the big one at
first. Of course, many didn't really have a clear
understanding of what that really was until the
definition of unique visits came into play. You
know, hits = file delivery whereas unique visitors
was just that.
The next form of
measurement was the page views or page load. That
was much more reliable form of seeing what people were
doing on the site therefore positioning pertinent info
based on visitor page view patterns. Now the
latest form of measurement is "stick time".
Obviously talking about how long a visitor stays on your
site.
The term "snacking" is
used for describing how most people look at your
information. They, more or less, troll around on
your site and snack off of your content. You know
what I'm talking about don't you? Read a bit and
if it doesn't give you what you're looking for you go to
the next bit of info. Now you know what I mean
about Snack & Stick.
An example of snack and
stick is at the site one of my clients
RainChains.com.
The story about RainChains.com founded by Garm
Beall is fascinating and very motivating for those of you
who are start-ups. It was Mr. Beall's answer to my
question of "how the hell did you make this happen?"
that lead me to my Find The Hole And Fill It theme in my
seminars. I can tell you more about that but I'm
going to stay with the Snack & Stick issue for this
blog.
RainChains.com is
already the #1 provider of rain chains in the world.
Starting up as a strictly site-driven company in 2002,
they have already got the machine well oiled.
However, in speaking with Mr. Beall about new
possibilities using my AMM spin, he agreed to run with
it for a test ride.
So, I developed a
non-intrusive product video (about 2 minutes long) for
his site and
popped onto his front page.
The iSpot on Rain Chains was constructed to give
first time customers the full understanding of the
products function as well as an artistic presentation of
options before snacking through the rest of the site.
Since the video was
launched in December 2007 the views are around 23,248 as
of the date of this blog (6/2/09). Attached to the
player is a "tell a friend" function that activates viral
marketing options which according to Mr. Beall, people
are doing.
"The reaction to the
video is great. With the casual introduction of
our product via streaming video, people are getting the
opportunity to see rain chains in action which is bringing
people deeper into the site for more information with a
strong flip to sale ratio (conversion)" says Mr. Beall.
